Can I choose where the audio recordings are stored on the desktop app for Mac. I would like to store them on the external SSD for doctor, or icloud for IOS

Allow specifying storage directory for audio files

Add the ability to manually select a local folder to store the audio files (such as an secondary or external drive) in order to help free up space.

Problem
Recordings can easily accrue to take up many gigabytes over time. This is most impactful on mobile. If I lose my device, my recordings are lost with it.
Investigation
I've been hoping to keep the recordings on on-demand sync (available with most major cloud storage services), so that they live in the cloud and only take up local space when I play them.
On macOS, the Hedy app's storage lives in a container at
~/Library/Containers/bot.hedy.mobile/Data/Documents/
. The data (audio files) are mixed in with metadata (hedy_sessions.db
and a couple of folders).Redirecting the recordings to cloud storage is nontrivial. If I were to simply redirect the whole folder, the database risks corruption from locking and sync issues. Beyond Hedy's control, there are Apple's restrictions on what can be done in a container.
Requested solution
The ideal solution would:
- maintain a clear separationof user data (recordings) from application data (databases).
- allow us to choose our own folderon our own filesystem (outside the container) to store our precious recordings.
- make recordings available cross-device, including on mobile and Web.
User benefits include:
- peace-of-mind:recordings are visible and can be easily backed up
- convenience:access recordings from within Hedy on any device, and even directly if needed
- consistency:recordings can be stored in a subfolder of ~/Documents or wherever is helpful to the user
Risks to manage:
- if the user changes the files in any way, that may break functionality within Hedy
- if saved to another volume like external drive, network share or cloud storage, how can Hedy behave if it's not available (not mounted/connected, or the file needs to be downloaded on-demand)
- there may be syncing/locking issues with external storage

If possible, consider adding this feature to the mobile application as well.

yes, this would be great as if you use it as often as I do, then you would start Filling Up your local (C-Drive) folder on your computer and that will start to become a problem in not very long ;-)
